Tama’s Sound Lab Project (S.L.P.) snare drums were designed to introduce drummers to a variety of new and exciting sounds—at an affordable price. Each snare possesses a distinct personality that’s well suited to a particular genre. S.L.P. is an ideal option for discerning drummers looking to add a fresh voice to their sonic palette at a comfortable price point. Drummers who dig the vibe and tonality of vintage but demand the reliability of modern drum-making will find a new favorite in the S.L.P. Vintage Poplar Maple.
This 8-lug snare offers open and warm sound that fits nicely into medium volume band mixes such as Jazz, Rock, Blues and other acoustic stylings. The 14" x 5.5" model features typical 6-ply vintage shell construction (Maple-Poplar-Maple with reinforcement rings), but with modern touches including precise shell and reinforcement hoop construction, precisely cut bearing edges, shallow/wide snare bed and dual-tensioning snare throw/butt plate. Tama's 20-strand snare wires feature redesigned angle of the end plates and added thinner straps to obtain optimum response.
Tama’s triple-flanged, 2.3mm steel hoops provide a “wetter,” more open sound than die-cast zinc hoops. Hourglass-style lugs (8) lend a sexy, striking silhouette to spice up the old-school character of the Natural Figured Maple finish. Silky-smooth tension rods make subtle tuning changes a breeze, letting you dial in just the right amount of tension for perfect tone every time. With classic tone and modern functionality, this drum is sure to become a "go-to" drum for actively gigging drummers.
