Joined The Family In 1996

My first job was at the age of 13 at the local (and also family owned) Kemp Mill Records. I have been working in music ever since. Record stores, record distributors and recording labels are all on my musical resume. Even though I do not play one instrument (phew!!), listening to music is my passion. My favorite music genres are progressive rock (RUSH, Yes, Dream Theatre, Zappa and Tool) and Jazz/Jazz Fusion (Weather Report, Tribal Tech, Monk, Miles, Coltrane). My favorite hobby is attending live shows. I average about 4 concerts a week and at least one of those shows is a local artist. Because of my concert attendance, I am very well known in the local music community as a lover and supporter of the local music scene.

History With Chucks

I began my career at Chuck’s in 1996, being personally interviewed and hired by Chuck himself. I started as a cashier but quickly moved to the accessory division where my personality and people skills were put to the test. Since then I have been THE go-to guy for many of the musicians in the area. The local venues also have me on call as well for in-house gear, as well as supplying gear in a pinch for performing acts in need. I've helped several European bands including White Lies, and Friendly Fires purchase new gear for their first and second US tours. I have had a huge part in supplying backline for major festivals, including Virgin Free Fest, and M3 Rock Festival, both put on by I.M.P. Promotions.

When the international battle of the bands company, Emergenza, did a five year stint in the United States, they asked me to be the MC for not only the DC Chapter, but also Baltimore and Philadelphia. I am also called on to be a judge for other band battles in the area. Within the store, my customers ask me several challenging questions including "How can I make my guitar tone sound like (insert your guitar hero here)?" Questions like that and discovering the answers are what make this job so much fun and enjoyable. With the rise of social media, I started the Chuck Levin’s Facebook and love working on it everyday and building its fan base. In 2009, I turned a section of the store into a small clinic room and have hosted many sold out educational clinics, including Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Stanley Clarke, Pat Martino, Tuck Andress, Al Di Meola, Phil Woods, Billy Sheehan, Virgil Donati and Ron Carter.
