Gregg Bissonette Biography

Gregg Bissonette has become known as one of the most versatile drummers in the business, with broad experience ranging from big band, blues, and rock, to Latin, fusion, and much more.
The Detroit native comes from a family of talented musicians, and started playing on his father’s drum kit at age 5, later studied with prominent teachers, and played in various local bands along with his brother, bassist Matt. After high school Gregg attended North Texas State University playing in the famed NTSU One O’Clock Big Band. This experience led to playing drums with Maynard Ferguson’s Big Band, Brandon Fields, and Gino Vannelli. Gregg’s big break came in the summer of 1985, when David Lee Roth left Van Halen and started his own band. Gregg landed the gig playing drums along with Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan and Brett Tuggle. The band recorded two multi-platinum albums and toured extensively.

In addition to tours with Toto, Steve Lukather, ELO, and others, Gregg has also been a long time member of Ringo Starr’s All Star band. Gregg is a veteran studio drummer, and records with several major artists, as well as sessions for television and film. He has released three solo albums: Gregg Bissonette, Submarine, and Warning Will Robinson which include songs written and produced by Matt Bissonette and feature Gregg on drums, percussion, trumpet, and lead vocals joined by a who’s who list of notable musicians.
